Kyle is reviewing his notes when Marla walks into his garage through the back door. Marla looks around at the things strewn about, \u201cHello Kyle, what exactly are you up to here\u201d
\nKyle turns to look at Marla, \u201cOh, hi, you caught me right in the middle of my grand attempt to better myself.\u201d
\n\u201cBetter yourself? What do you mean?\u201d
\n\u201cWell, if I can transfer myself into this crude automaton then I will be able to slowly upgrade myself into something great.\u201d
\n\u201cWhy can you not do that with your current body?\u201d
\n\u201cThe human body has so many inherent flaws to begin with. I would rather not be constantly working uphill.\u201d
\n\u201cHmm, but Kyle, but what standards do you feel you are not already great?\u201d
\n\u201cIf I were already great I would not feel the desire to improve myself.\u201d
\n\u201cSo greatness is some kind of perfection?\u201d
\n\u201cYes.\u201d
\n\u201cAnd you can achieve this only through mechanical upgrade?\u201d
\n\u201cYes.\u201d
\n\u201cBut what if I already thought you were great?\u201d
\n\u201cThen you would be mistaken.\u201d
\n\u201cSo you are saying that my interpretation is flawed. Though it is purely subjective.\u201d
\nKyle considers this statement.
\nMarla continues, \u201cand more so, how do you know greatness can be engineered? You seem to only have a vague idea of what this great things will be. What if to the automaton the greatest thing would be to possession human, consciousness, or even more to be human?\u201d
\nKyle stares at his notes, a little upset.
\nMarla clutches Kyles head and presses it to her chest. She whispers in Kyle’s ear, \u201cthere is no such thing as great, there is nothing more than what you are.\u201d
